Would it make you think twice before going on a killing spree? I think not!

People that go on killing sprees don't usually think rationally: Period! The fact that the public may be armed is highly unlikely to deter him from his personal vendetta or erratic behavior because he is obviously disturbed!

You may not think twice but with legally armed citizens all around you I bet someone would put an IMMEDIATE stop to any efforts at murderous criminal activity. The police cannot be everywhere so it is up to honest armed citizens to keep society safe.

In fact, if we look at gang wars, mob wars, and general underworld crime, we see that people actually tend to attack armed people more.

If i suddenly found myself in a crossfire I would want to be armed.

People kill people...guns are merely one of the ways in which to inflict death or cause serious harm

If everyone was liceneced to carry weapons such as guns this would mean a decrease in public safety because most serious incidents as such are crimes of passion- therefore a gun is a dangerous weapon that needs strict and specific laws governing them.

As a deterrent to stopping a rampant killer from shooting you in the head; it is more likely that an already explosive situation will only be escalated as it only increases the likelihood of a seriously volatile exchange.

The shooter may be going to die anyway, but why antagonize him further to the point that he feels even more threatened as obviously he is not thinking rationally in the first instance or he would not be in the diabolical circumastance as such.

You need to do some research, there was a book done in over 40 countries and 300 cities called more guns less crime. Now when the general population carries a weapon the crime rate goes down, for a couple of reasons. Read a book lady.
A "rappant shooter" is killing all that he can kill, I'd rather die trying to stop him with anything available (hopefully a gun because it would be much easier) than sit there like a coward. I value my fellow Americans lives. Do You?

Yes, an Armed Public is a Safe Public

If we examine the heinous crimes in the past with the mass shootings, well one place person in the crowd with a weapon would probably pull it out and defend their lives if they had to. That's why we have these permits!. The shooter is probably looking to die anyway and he isn't going to spare you, with or without the gun. What do we have to lose by letting our citizens protect themselves from these crazies, within reason?

But how do you tell who's crazy and who isn't? Acquiring guns for safety is like fucking for virginity..

Your feeble attempt at an analogy leaves one to wonder what level of intelligence you might possess. Your choice of words speaks volumes. Owning/carrying a weapon for self defense of yourself or those around you is a responsibility and a right.

There were reasons why all the effective tyrants in history disarmed the public and rendered illegal the possession of firearms or munitions of any sort. Think about it. Who benefits when the public is toothless?

The bad people are going to get the guns anyway...

-- Posted By Fragrant_Brit on September 7, 2007

It is naive to think that by not allowing law abiding, sane citizens to carry weapons that somehow you are keeping the criminals from getting one. These people aren't using legal means all of the time for their weapons of choice!. Look at that Virginia Tech killer: legally obtained gun. The Columbine killers: questionable means of obtaining guns. Street gangs: Illegal means of obtaining guns. You might be able to keep the public from the guns, but not the ones who want to use them maliciously.

If and when anarchy reigns around this great country, the only ones you will be able to depend on for your safety will be people like me who are willing to take our personal firearms and defend your life at the possible cost of our own.

AMEN, when you outlaw guns only the outlaws will have guns.

And they knew how to used their firearm (training and testing), then certain tragedies would not happen. People would look at murder a more of a risk. However, accident statistics would raise dramatically. Children getting into Daddy's guns.
